This year Pages & Prose has a wonderful and diverse set of books that cross so many genres but we’re starting out the year with The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates & The Bird King by G. Willow Wilson.

About Our Reads:

The Water Dancer follows Hiram who was born into slavery, when his mother is taken he receives a gift and years later this same gift saves his life. After realizing his power he’s determined to save his family and becomes involved in an underground war between slaves and their captors. The Bird King is about Fatima, a concubine to the King, and her dear friend Hassan, the Royal mapmaker. Hassan has the ability to draw places that he’s never seen and to change the shape of reality and when Fatima befriends a representative of the visiting Spanish Monarchy she never expected that Hassan’s power would be seen as a threat. With help from a Jinn, Fatima and Hassan travel across Spain to find safety and to run from everything they’ve ever known.

I’m planning on choosing The Water Dancer by Ta-Nehisi Coates as my main read for the month!

Other BookClub Reads:

As well as Pages & Prose reads I’ll be reading along with a few other bookclubs BuddyReadALatte & GalacticGrimoireBookClub. I’ll be reading The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White for BuddyReadALatte which is a gender bent Camelot retelling that I’ve been excited for. The book GalacticGrimoire has chosen for January will be The Disasters by Non-Binary Author M.K. England.

I have high hopes for these reads but I’m mainly just excited to read so many diverse things this month on top of the reads I already have planned. I hope you guys have a ton of fun with whatever bookish clubs you’re following along with! Blessed Be✨
