Top Ten Tuesday: Childhood Favorites

Hey y’all! This week’s Top Ten Tuesday asks us to talk about our childhood favorites so I’ll be talking about a few books that I remember loving while growing up✨

When I first picked this book up from the library as a young teen I remember thinking that I was the black sheep of my own family so maybe I could find something relatable within its pages. It was full of the main character Kendra’s growing pains after she writes to a show called “Black Sheep” and she’s whisked away to spend a summer with a host family and to film a reality show with her new family. I loved it.

I had read a few of Neal’s books when I was younger but this was the last one I remember picking up and being shocked by. I was so shocked to read about a society where teens were kept solely to be used as “spare parts” for adults who wanted to be immortal. The Unwinding process is essentially a retroactive abortion and we follow a few characters trying to escape being unwound and find some kind of civilization. I never continued with the series but I totally might!

I was absolutely in love with the movie Coraline and I didn’t know that I was a book. When I say that this book scared the hell out of me as a teen I am not joking. I regretted staying up late reading it because I thought there were ghost children everywhere and this was the first book I remember being frightened from so Neil Gaiman, don’t you ever change!

  1. This was a great list!! I’ve never heard of the first one, but it sounds interesting so I might have to check it out. When I was younger I was mostly reading silly stuff like Gossip Girl until I got into The Hunger Games and Divergent in high school.

    1. I totally loved all of the Gossip Girl stories I feel you lol The Black Sheep was super cute and full of so many awkward teen growing up situations but it’s super endearing. 🖤
