Blogtober // Trick or Treat?

I know I’m not the only one that’s been super excited for a book and it just didn’t live up to the expectation. I have never met a book that I didn’t like, just one that I’m not fond of so I wanted to label some of the tricks and treats of my TBR. This is an original blog post by me β˜ΊοΈπŸŽƒπŸ•Έ

Crucify me if you would like but this book took me two months to finish. I couldn’t get into the world, or the characters and I didn’t understand what was going on until the last 150 pages of the book. I was rather disappointed reading it but with that being said…..Crooked Kingdom redeemed the series for me. I’m glad I read it but it will not go down in history as my favorite novel. I’m labeling this one as a Trick.

I do not read smutty books, I barely read contemporary fiction unless it’s from someone that I trust and that I absolutely know has great taste in books. This book was an absolute Treat. I devoured this book in one day and all in all it took me a few hours to finish! I am in love with Stella Lane & Michael Larsen and I will shout it from the rooftops.

Yes. I know I just stated that I didn’t read contemporary fiction. I read this book about a year ago and it wasn’t that the writing was bad or that the plot wasn’t there because I did love the movie. I just found the main character to be insufferable. I thought the author showed people that live with a disability in an incredibly crass and rude light. I found myself willing the book to be over and I disliked this read so much that it tarnished the movie for me. I loved the story but it’s amazing how much a character will ruin a good thing. Complete Trick.

This was a bookclub read earlier this year and I didn’t know what to expect from it at all but I have to say that I loved it. It’s a stand-alone and I was sitting there at the end of it all wishing and hoping that Rogerson would write another one. It was such a beautifully written story and I don’t know if it the amount of nature that was within the book that helped sway me but it was just everything. I loved that the fae could draw their powers from the earth and that most of their magic was most powerful when it involved it coming from the dirt beneath their feet. I need to get my copy of this book but this was such a Treat.

Thanks for reading this quick post! I would love to know what books you considered a trick or a treat this lovely #Blogtober!

  1. I agree with SoC, I never read any of the other books and the world that it’s placed it is just a bit hard for me to get into. The characters, on the other hand, I really enjoyed, Crooked Kingdom was good too! I can’t wait to read The Kiss Quotient, heard so many great things about it.

  2. I L O V E this idea you’ve created (thank you for tagging me on Twitter – I will get around to it)
Have you read The Grishaverse/Shadow & Bone trilogy? I was about to read Six of Crows when it was suggested I need to read the trilogy first otherwise there’s certain things in SoC that won’t make sense. I’m only on book two of the trilogy so haven’t gotten around to SoC yet so I’m not sure how much of a difference it does make to the book.
I’m looking forward to checking out your ‘treat’ books, they both sound great!

    1. I wish that I had read the Grisha trilogy first because it did help me understand things better when I read Crooked Kingdom!! Each of the series are super unique, I thought there was a bit of a lull within each but it was a great adventure and worth pushing through! I hope you like it 😍
